Best PhD dissertation award in entrepreneurship

Dr. Annabelle Jaouen has been awarded the FNEGE (French Foundation for Management Education) prize of best PhD thesis in entrepreneurship.  

The FNEGE  awards prizes of best thesis in order to distinguish the best French doctoral works in management. 

The FNEGE program awards a prize to every discipline of Management Science: entrepreneurship, strategy, marketing, finance, human ressources, information systems, accounting-control-audit. The main scientific associations make the selection of the best thesis. 

Abstract : This research aims to understand and to put into light characteristics and particular development problems of very small organisations. It also shows that strategic aliance between very small entreprises (VSEs) present particular characteristics, and may bring an adapted response to the development needs of this type of organisation. The method being exploratory and descriptive, a configurational aproach is adopted, and allows to put into light several results. On the one hand, four types of VSE (very small entreprises) managers are identified, with divergent characteristics and strategic behaviors. On the other hand, four aliance configurations are also identified, depending on their purpose ans on the subjacent logic of the partners. Nevrtheless, to apprehend accurately the link between manager's profile and aliance shape, we have to consider the partnership formation process. These three poles then constitute a framework of VSE alliances, from which are analyzed coordination modes, motives, partners' contributions and effects of alliance on each firm. Finally, this thesis argues about, among others, the specificity of VSE and the necessity to consider it as an entire research object.
