Editorial
Internationalization and globalization are a real challenge for universities in France and their impact has been noticeable for more than five years now. Research is placed in the very heart of every adapting and developing strategy, causing a restructuring of most French business schools. In 2003, GSCM-Montpellier Business School (GSCM) sets up its research center, the CEROM, in order to accelerate the structuring and development of research activity. Today, 23 full professors, two adjunct professors and 14 research assistants are active members of the research center. Three new researchers are arriving in January 2007 and six new recruitments are planned next year. By the end of 2007, 45 active members will make part of the research center.
GSCM specializes on two main research fields: "Entrepreneurship and market dynamics" and "Information systems management and organizational dynamics". Both research fields reflect a certain specialization of management research and specific industry features of the Montpellier area. A major topic of GSCM research strategy is also the strategic alliance with local universities. Several cooperative agreements with a certain number of local university research centers have been signed in the past years. This fruitful cooperation has motivated the members of this strategic alliance to create a research cluster entitled Montpellier Management Education and Research.
The GSCM policy aims to build a high quality Business School at a European level. The research development strategy concords with this objective and the progress made in the past couple of years is very encouraging and the research outcomes reach the level of visibility on at least a European scale. The research policy focuses especially on four points…
- Raising the academic level of the faculty (Encouraging faculty to achieve PhD and HDR degrees)
- Recruitment of new faculty,
- Internationalization of the research activities and faculty,
- Qualitative and quantitative increase of research outcomes (intellectual contributions).
The current report confirms the successful implantation of the GSCM research policy. GSCM researchers regularly attend the most important international conferences and see their work published in the best French and international journals. In 2005, 19 journal articles were published along with 13 other publications (books, book chapters, etc.); in 2006, main research outcomes are 34 articles and 31 other publications. The international visibility (journal articles) becomes appreciable in 2005 and really significant in 2006. For the first time, the number of articles written in English is practically equivalent to those written in French. The part of English articles increases from 21.1% in 2005 to 44.1% in 2006.
